Knowing Your Customer Is Vital To Your Business

Knowing your customer is a vital step as a product or service provider.  Why?  You are nothing without your customer; your business is nothing without your customer.  Therefore, your first step is to know them and what product or service they want and expect from your company.

Knowing your customer not only increases your chances of keeping that customer, but also acquiring more customers through word of mouth.  If your customer has a less than satisfactory experience with you and your company, not only do you lose that customer, but you also lose future potential customers.

Your customer is the most important person in your business.  They can make or break you.  Your customer is your primary asset.  Therefore, you need to get to know them on a personal level, know their mentality, and gauge in their buying trends.

In addition, knowing your customer will allow you to keep stock of the product your customer wants, including the current trend of products out there.  This will satisfy your customers and keep them coming back for more.  In order to do this, you must keep in contact with your customers.  An email newsletter will keep customers informed on what's going on in your business and industry as well as what products are the current trend.  Ask your customers if they would like to be on a mailing list, and if they are satisfied with the first contact, they are likely to say yes.

Moreover, if you do not know your customers or keep them informed of what's going on, you will not only hinder your chances of success by losing a dissatisfied customer or a customer who has lost interest due to lack of communication, but you will never know how to approach them.  Businesses have lost potential customers due to feeling uncomfortable with those they come into contact with.

In this case, not only do you lose a dissatisfied customer, you have caused yourself and your business an exponential economic loss, due to ignorance and lack of planning.  It's an exponential economic loss because word travels fast if a customer is not satisifed with your product or service.

Therefore, you must sit down, plan, and get to know your customer.  Find out there wants, needs, what they can and cannot afford, and how you can help them.  This is problem solving.  This will help you determine what you need to stock so your customer will have what they need.  This will also help you determine what you can sell to them in the future.  Ask them if they would like to join your email list so you can send out products which they may want or need in the future.

This is important in not only obtaining customers, but retaining them as well.  Otherwise, you will lose out to the competition.
